Baveno is positioned on the road between Stresa and Feriolo, in front of the Borromeo's islands. The town has ancient origins, the historical nucleus it is formed by buildings dated X century, actually it is a famous and frequented center of permanence, among the most pleasant and preferred by the international tourism, because it is a climatic and thermal station too. Its notoriety is also to attribute to the possibility to extract from the surrounding mountains, in particular from the Camoscio mountain, the appreciated red and pink granite, with which famous monuments have been built as the Gallery Vittorio Emanuele to Milan and the dome of St. Gaudenzio to Novara. Interesting the testimonies of Roman epoch, an example is the parish church, devoted to St. Gervasio and St. Protasio, whose Romanesque bell tower polls aloft above the town, that it was built in the XI century. The nineteenth-century villas of aristocratic derivation are numerous, at the entry of the town it can be distinguished Villa Branca (1844) in Gothic English style, where the Regina Vittoria sojourned, in front of the public port, and Villa Fedora, where Umberto Giordano played "Fedora", with a splendid park opened to the public, currently ownership of the Chamber of Commerce.
