Sesto Calende is situated between Castelletto sopra Ticino and Lisanza, in the southern extremity of the lake on the border between Lombardy and Piedmont, these last connected since 1868 by an imposing iron bridge, where the river Ticino is reformed. Thank to its strategic position, since the antiquity it had active role as it is shown by the testimonies of the development of the Golasecca's civilization, currently visible near the Civic Archaeological Museum. To visit in the south of the town the Park of the Ticino's Valley, the Romanesque abbey of San Donato of the IX century, known as "La Badia", and the San Vincenzo's Romanesque oratory of the XI century. The place is a fundamental commercial and industrial center but also touristic, where it can be enjoyed the banks of the river Ticino.
